Why The Name Wendy's?

Originally the name ‘Supa Sundaes’ was chosen because that was the description of the big champagne glasses full of ice creams and fruits that were originally invented for the company.

These sundaes were larger than life and it was believed they were going to make quite an impression on people. So ‘Supa Sundaes’ was developed as the basis for the name and then the search began for an evergreen name that would go with it.

The first name chosen was 'Bubbles’, but that turned out to be registered, so then it was agreed to search for a girl’s name.

The basis of the search revolved around characters from cartoons and childrens fairytales due to their evergreen nature and feeling of good will.

After a thorough search, the name Wendy's was chosen in early 1979.

Over the 25 years that Wendy's has been around, the ‘Supa Sundaes’ has dropped off to just "Wendy’s".
