The Wendy’s franchise network of ice cream retail stores was founded in Adelaide over 25 years ago, on 31 st July 1979. Now, 300 stores across Australia and New Zealand treat over 750,000 consumers each week and Wendy’s turns over more than $105 million per year.

Our vision is “passionate people delivering a great treat experience”. We are essentially a treat brand – we are wholesome, real, fun and pink.

Originally Wendy’s emerged as a destination for children, with unique face ice cream cones and fun shakes. However, we soon recognised that there was an opportunity to grow our business standing at our counter each day – women in shopping centres. We needed to broaden our brand appeal and product offer to women in general, achieved through innovative product development. Today our primary consumers are women aged 20 – 49 years, some with children.

At Wendy’s, innovation is a core value and an overarching approach to our business. We may be a 27-year-old ice cream company, but we constantly seek out emerging trends, listening to the needs and wants of our consumers and respond creatively with new initiatives and products. In considering our product offer to women, we acknowledged their increasing desire to make healthier treat decisions for themselves and their families. We were one of the first ice cream companies to market with 97% fat free choices. We continue to develop new product ideas in support of both our consumers and our Franchisees.

Wendy’s is in a very strong position. We have just completed our best year for a decade with the current financial year looking even stronger and more stores to be opened before the year ends.
